WordPress 2.5 released

WordPress 2.5 is here. The latest version of the world’s leading blogging software was released on March 31. I’ve installed it on all of my blogs and several of my client’s.
Upgrade was a breeze although because there are so many files, it does take a little time. In my experience, there have been no problems with themes or plugins breaking with the new version.
The primary difference that you as a user will notice is the new, cleaner admin interface. Things are organized better and it posting is even simpler than it was.
The new WYSIWYG editor is nicely featured and has a “full screen” mode where it will fill your browser window. That is handy if you are writing a large article for your blog.
There is a media editor in WordPress 2.5 that make it easy to post images, videos and audio files. Here is a little video of me creating a gallery in WordPress 2.5.
The new media handler can also upload and post videos and audio files. The audio one creates a simple link to the MP3. That is OK, but I much prefer the Audio Player that we have been using for a while that inserts a flash player and offer opportunities to download or to listen.
I ran into a size issue with the video above. I will try this with a YouTube video shortly.
All in all, I’d highly recommend the upgrade to WordPress 2.5. It’s enough of an improvement to justify the work - besides it will stop your Dashboard from nagging you that there is an upgrade available.
